How much do tattoos hurt?

Like on a scale from 1-10,1 being-did something just poke me? And 10 being-WHY WOULD I PUT MYSELF THROUGH THIS?!?!!how much would a tattoo hurt?I'm not getting a tattoo but when I watch shows like NY ink it doesn't really look all that painfull.
